Role Overview & Responsibilities

JOB OVERVIEW

<br><br>

The School is looking to appoint a Graduate Assistant who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to create a warm and welcoming environment for boarders.

<br><br>

Working with the Boarding Team, the Graduate Teaching Assistant will live in the boarding house and assist the Head of Boarding and teaching staff to supervise children and associated activities in and around the School. This role can also be tailored to suit the skillset and interests of the successful candidate (e.g. sport, music, drama, art, and academic).

<br><br>

As the Graduate Assistant you will join a school that offers an excellent all-round education and a wealth of opportunities to excel both in the classroom and beyond. The school encourages and celebrates participation in sport and the arts, including art and design technology, drama and music as well as a wide variety of extra-curricular activities enabling every child to develop their individual strengths, talents and interests and discover new ones.

THE SCHOOL

The School is an established co-educational independent Preparatory School for around 300 children aged 3 - 13+ set in a beautiful Jacobean mansion with its own thirty-acre estate in the heart of the Buckinghamshire countryside just twenty minutes from Oxford, Thame and Aylesbury.

<br><br>

The School has expanded significantly over the last fifteen years and invested heavily in its infrastructure and support systems. We aim to give every child the firmest possible grounding in the core academic subjects, within a small caring family community where children both know each other and all of the staff.

DUTIES

<br><br>

<b>As the Graduate Teaching Assistant your duties will include:</b><br>

Assist as part of a duty rota with the supervision of boarders’ clubs, activities and the bedtime routine

<br><br>

Assist with the wake-up and the breakfast routine

<br><br>

Lead activities and clubs (suited to your skills) for pupils

<br><br>

Work closely with the Head of Boarding and other boarding staff to create a warm, welcoming and family atmosphere within the House

<br><br>

Help staff deliver the School’s Wrap-around Care provision

<br><br>

Assist teaching staff with classroom activities and project work

<br><br>

Assist with administrative tasks

<br><br>

Participate in the duty rota for supervising pupils at break, lunch and other times, as required

<br><br>

Accompany pupils and staff on educational visits e.g. museums and camping expeditions

<br><br>

Assist and lead in the daily Games Coaching sessions

<br><br>

Provide Lifeguarding cover at the swimming pool during PE, Games and Activities during the summer months (training will be arranged for you)

<br><br>

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

<br><br>

Essential

<br><br>

Educated to Degree Level or equivalent

<br><br>

GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths

<br><br>

Ability to work as part of a team

<br><br>

Able to independently manage workload and to apply good time management and organisation to work

<br><br>

Good ICT skills, particularly in the Microsoft Office suite of products

<br><br>

A flexible approach and a willingness to participate in all activities

<br><br>

Reliable and honest

<br><br>

Ability to work independently

<br><br>

Have good written and oral interpersonal and communication skills

<br><br>

Ability to develop good relations with staff and pupils and the wider school community

<br><br>

Desirable

<br><br>

Emergency First Aid at Work (or equivalent)

<br><br>

National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (or equivalent)

<br><br>

Recent experience of working with children age 3-11

<br><br>

Recent experience of teaching or coaching abilities, and an eye for detail

<br><br>
