Role Overview & Responsibilities
Steam House Café has the aim of reducing the stigma around mental health, encouraging people in the community to talk openly and honestly about mental health. It operates as an NHS crisis hub but also as a community café with regular social groups and activities. This role is to support the running of the activities.
Main responsibilities:
- Talk to people from a wide variety of backgrounds, making them feel welcome and provide a listening ear.
- Support customers to connect with others attending.
- Facilitate activities, such as arts and crafts, board games etc.
- Liaise with Service Manager or other appropriate persons to ensure safety of customers and volunteers.
- Act in accordance with Trust policies and procedures and represent the organisation in a positive and professional manner.
- Conduct all interactions within professional and socially acceptable boundaries.

- Show empathy towards those attending.
- Be able to listen and not offer specific advice on situations and problems.
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained, inside and outside of the session (subject to safeguarding concerns).
- Share any lived experience appropriately and sensitively.
- Share local knowledge of other services and activities customers can access.
