Job description

The School of Allied and Public Health Professions has a long and proud history in Kent and Medway of providing courses for our aspiring:

  • Occupational Therapists
  • Operating Department Practitioners
  • Paramedics
  • Physiotherapists
  • Radiographers
  • Speech and Language Therapists

We are also home to a vibrant programme of public health teaching and research, helping us to put promoting health and wellbeing high on our agenda. More recently, we are engaged in exciting and prestigious research and policy development to improve many aspects of healthcare delivery. The experiences and voices of those patients that use the services of our Allied Health Professionals already underpins much of our work, for example by:

  • helping us to pay attention to important values in the recruitment of our students,
  • sharing their experiences with students as part of their learning, and
  • providing feedback on students’ performance in practice settings

We would really like to build on this work and are seeking a Patient and Public Representative to join our School Executive Team. If ensuring a patient voice in the development of our future NHS workforce, or research, is something that you are passionate about, then we’d love to hear from you.

We anticipate the time commitment will be about 10 days per year, and will include a range of activities such as attending committee meetings, contributing to staff development days, and commenting on core documents. We will cover your expenses, and offer payment in line with the National Institute for Health and Care Research Public Contributor Payment Policy available here: https://www.nihr.ac.uk/documents/nihr-public-contributor-payment-policy/31626

It’s likely that you will have some previous experience of this type of work, but we will provide a bespoke programme of training and support to help you in the role. What is crucial though is that you’re able to act as a critical friend to the School, drawing on your own and others’ experiences, as we continue our journey.
