About The Service


Cardiff Harbour Authority (CHA) was established on 1st April 2000 and took over the responsibilities of Cardiff Bay Development Corporation as set out in the Cardiff Bay Barrage Act 1993. In doing so the Harbour Authority performs the statutory Harbour Authority functions on behalf of Cardiff Council. The Harbour Master team operate a small fleet of specialist work vessels used to ensure the statutory functions the Harbour Authority are met and safety of navigation is maintained within the Harbour limits.


About the job


An opportunity has arisen for a Marine Operative to work within the Harbour Master’s Team at Cardiff Harbour Authority. Reporting to the duty Boatmaster, you will be part of a team which maintains and manages the waters of Cardiff Bay.

You will act as crew aboard the specialist vessels operated by CHA, assisting the boat masters in the various day-to-day running, maintenance and enforcement duties on the water and shores of Cardiff Bay in all weather, undertaking activities such as debris clearance on the water on the banks, jet washing pontoons. You will occasionally also be required to act as deck crew, look out and relief helmsman in Cardiff Bay including at Sea and within the coding limits of the vessels.


What We Are Looking For From You


We are looking for a team member who enjoys working outdoors and in all weathers under challenging conditions. The successful candidate will ideally have suitable experience working in a marine environment although training will be provided and development opportunitities will be available.


Additional information


The post will work a shift pattern encompassing weekends and Bank Holidays and different operating times, depending on time of year and duties involved.
