Role Overview & Responsibilities
A role of Buddhist Minister of Religion has to be a fully ordained Buddhist monk in the Theravada Buddhist Tradition. and he/she is required to perform/be able to officiate the following:
Daily traditional offerings in memory of the Buddha by the monastics, and the lay community (morning/afternoon/evening);
Attending and officiating alms ceremonies to the Buddhist monastics;
Chanting of sacred Buddhist scriptures to confer blessing to the congregation;
Weekly Buddhist sermons to teach the Buddhist doctrine;
Organizing and conducting residential Meditation retreats at external venues;
Conducting regular Meditation classes to overcome stress and cultivate stability of practice through the teachings;
Acting as a community resource for anyone requiring to learn secular mindfulness;
Higher doctrinal classes for advanced practitioners;
Organizing Buddhist Lectures, talks, discussions, and forums inviting monastics and lay speakers;
Conducting Mindfulness and Buddhism classes for children and young adults;
Chaplaincy and pastoral care to the community;
Offering Buddhist spiritual counseling;
Conducting Buddhist Funerals to confer merit to the departed;
Maintaining strong interfaith relations promoting harmony, diversity, and cohesion;
and Initiate charitable events of community interests.
Non-negotiables:
1. Ordained Buddhist Theravadin Monk: 5 Years
2. Languages Required (minimum 2 of 5): English, Sinhala, Burmese, Hindi, Tamil
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Contract length: 12 months
Salary: From £20,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- 12 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Overtime
- Weekend availability
COVID-19 considerations:
Ministers of Religion are required to wear a mask during work hours and interactions with the community. and keep up with all government advice on the subject.
