Role Overview & Responsibilities

There is an exciting opportunity within the Vascular department at East Kent Hospitals for a Speciality Doctor in Vascular to join our team. The Vascular Department provides for the admission of emergency and elective in-patients, day case surgery, diagnostic procedures and outpatient consultations. The unit hosts the Kent & Medway National AAA screening programme. There is a full endovascular service and the unit has a hybrid operating theatre (and currently the second endovascular theatre is being refurbished). The AAA endovascular programme includes a fenestrated stent graft practice.

This post will comprise a mixture of training and service delivery made up of ward rounds, clinics and theatre sessions as well as providing middle grade level on-call on a non-resident compliant rota.

Clinical sessions take place at Kent and Canterbury Hospital, William Harvey Hospital, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital.

There will be outpatient sessions in general and specialised Vascular outpatient clinics where there will be both direct and indirect consultant supervision and training depending on the experience of the post holder. The range of clinics includes general Vascular, renal access clinics, Medway National AAA screening, Vascular ultrasound clinics. The post-holder will attend theatre sessions per week, with direct consultant supervision and training. There will be time allocated weekly for Administration and days off following 24 hour on-call shift. Specialty Doctors are expected to participate in annual appraisal and undergo annual job plan review.

We will work with you to shape the ideal job plan upon successful appointment, and review it with you after three months and then annually – so you can keep the perfect fit.

We will also provide the essential resources to support you in your duties, including
administrative support.
