About the Role

We have exciting opportunities to join the Lockheed Martin team in Havant, Hampshire as a Lead Systems Engineer.

You will work mainly within the engineering team on Airborne Mission Systems, with particular focus on Merlin, a programme which Lockheed Martin has been involved with for around 30 years. In addition, you will have opportunities to work both on our existing portfolio of programmes and future capabilities, which we want you to help shape.

You will primarily be home based with occasional travel to the Havant offices and our customer sites in Crawley and Yeovil. This would really suit you If you have a background in Aerospace, particularly Helicopters, or other highly regulated industries such as Automotive, as well as exposure to synthetic training systems development.

You will experience a wide range of engineering activities including:
  • Leading a technical team on a sub system or part of a system
  • Becoming the Cognizant (responsible) Engineer for a sub system of part of a sub system.
  • Requirements Derivation
  • Review, advise and approve system test plans and acceptance test documentation
  • Leading Design efforts of Bespoke Aerospace Software/Hardware interfaces and systems
  • Modelling and Systems design
  • Interpreting engineering drawings using CAD
  • Translate business requirements into appropriate technical specifications
  • Manage your time and the teams time effectively to develop effective solutions to cost and quality targets
  • Provide technical input to programme management and commercial staff and support where required in the use of LM and industry tools
  • Any additional Programme related tasks assigned that are within area of expertise, competence and skill set.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and suppliers across all levels of the organisation both internally and with the customer

  • Comprehensive understanding of Systems Engineering tools processes and practices. (TOGAF, UML/SysML, DOORS)
  • Ability to direct other more junior staff to achieve technical objectives and solutions.
  • Solid Understanding of requirements definition and interface documentation required to support the development and acceptance of solutions.
  • Extensive Understanding of Test and Qualification procedures and practices, especially with regard to requirement sell off.
  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to write in a clear and concise manner
  • Positive attitude, and willingness to get involved with tasks across the System Engineering lifecycle
  • The ability to manage tasks and priorities to ensure that assigned workload is delivered when required.
  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences on sometimes complex

Desired skills, qualifications and experience
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated industry
  • Experience as a Tech lead or similar position.
  • Experience with being the technical approver or similar role.
  • Degree in Engineering or other STEM subjects
  • Experience of Airborne Systems with experience of Merlin Mk2 platform
  • Ability to analyse technical problems and provide pragmatic solutions
  • Proven ability to produce cost effective and technically compliant solutions
  • Practical experience of Model Based Systems Engineering (SysML, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect)
