Department: Ward 23, Surgery

Band 6 (£32,306 - £39,027 per annum)

37.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

Ward 23 is a 40 bedded surgical ward at Milton Keynes University hospital specialising in Trauma, Orthopaedics and ENT.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual, who would like to develop their leadership skills to join our supportive team.

We are looking for Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our team and grab the opportunity to learn and develop your nursing and leadership skills.

We offer support to all new staff starting with the Trust induction, networks for preceptorship, mentorship and ongoing support with practice development. Our practice education team encourage and facilitate bespoke courses and in-house training continuously throughout employment at MKUH.

We work closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide high quality care to our patients. Our team support patients recovering from a range of surgeries to help them regain their independence through the care we give. Our diverse group of patients include those recovering from Trauma, Orthopaedics, ear nose and throat and general surgery.

  • To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care of patients, incorporating the standards and philosophy of the ward and evidence based research.
  • To participate in setting/monitoring/auditing agreed standards of care within the ward.
  • To work closely with medical colleagues, providing them with professional nursing expertise and input.
  • To be responsible for the day to day running of the ward in the absence of the ward manager.
  • To assist when necessary with the initiation and evaluation of any projects or research appropriate to the services provided within the ward in line with clinical governance.
  • To assist the ward manager in ensuring that all new staff receive adequate induction and orientation which is appropriate for them, and the needs of the ward.
  • To attend all required mandatory training and remain up to date.
