Role Overview & Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Victim Liaison Officer to join our high performing Youth Justice Partnership in North Lincolnshire.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, hard working and committed individual to be part of our highly innovative and motivated ‘Child First’ offer.

Everyone at North Lincolnshire Council shares a commitment to enabling resilience and helping families stay together. Ofsted stated in 2022 that "Children benefit from a consistently high standard of social work practice. The commitment to children as a priority for the council and across the partnership is exemplary. Senior leaders have created a culture in which social work has flourished. It is based on the importance of relationships, and of promoting children’s sense of being loved and cared for."

Youth Justice Partnerships have statutory duties placed on them through the Code of Practice for Victims of Crime. This role will take a lead in ensuring all duties are carried out.

All victims are entitled to be offered the opportunity to engage in voluntary restorative justice activities. In every case a decision must be taken to invite the victim to take part in a restorative activity taking into account:

  • their wishes
  • feelings and concerns
  • any sensitivities in the case, including the vulnerability of the victim
  • whether the child is able and willing to engage

The process should determine whether reparation is appropriate, what form it should take (direct or indirect) and what the victim and child feel comfortable with. The process should also manage expectations of what is and is not feasible, realistic and safe. Informed written consent must be obtained for every victim who agrees to take part in restorative justice or direct reparation.

All YJP staff who work with victims must receive appropriate training (including facilitating restorative justice processes, particularly mediation and conferencing) and be familiar with the Code of Practice for Victims of Crime.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring there is a process to request and receive feedback from victims which will be periodically analysed and reviewed. This might include numbers of victims contacted, reparation offered, victims who have refused RJ.

To apply and be considered for this position your application will clearly evidence the job description and employee specification attached.

If you would like any further information, please contact Youth Justice Team Manager Stephen Murphy or 01724 298549.
