Research Technician
Role Overview & Responsibilities
We are looking for Research Technician to join our OneSource Team on customer site in Stevenage.
The successful candidate will have responsibility for:
- Management of the Chemical Stores and its associated databases
- Procurement of chemicals to align with GSK requirements of cost and quality
- Management of Chemical entities at GSK Stevenage R&D campus
- Using expertise to offer advice to chemistry groups with focus on cost and environmental effectiveness
Job Responsibilities:
Operational
- Assist with the management of the Chemical inventory database (ICARUS).
- Assist scientists in sourcing and purchasing chemicals from GSK preferred suppliers according to specifications, comparing prices and lead times.
- Receive, check, and register commercial chemicals into GSK inventory system.
- Retrieve and dispense requested chemicals in a timely manner.
- Ensure reusable chemicals returned from labs are restocked into the inventory system efficiently and accurately.
- Assist with the disposal of outdated chemicals and waste management.
- To carry out regular audit of chemical compounds in laboratories.
- Interconvert chemical names into structures and vice versa.
- Comply with all Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) rules and regulations.
- Perform daily Safety Checks of the Chemical Store storage areas for possible hazards and risks.
- Liaise daily with scientific staff and other team members in providing excellent service to our customers.
- Perform other reasonable duties to approved standard (e.g GMP/GLP) as requested by the line manager.
- Perform some basic Process Chemistry/Chemical Engineering unit operations
- Updating Safety Data Sheet (SDS) in 3E Protect SDS Management System
Requirements:
- BSc/MSc qualification in relevant scientific subject (e.g. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy) or equivalent experience
- 2 years’ experience in laboratory environment
- Good understanding of chemical knowledge especially organic chemistry with emphasis in stereochemistry and chemical reactivity.
- Strong organisational and computer skills.
- Ability to understand customer needs and to deliver exceptional customer service to build valuable long-time relationship with customers and clients.
- Ability to understand customer requirements and clear and concise written and spoken communication skills.
- Experience in working to SOPs, Risk Assessments and other safety rules and compliance regulations.
- Good team-working behaviours, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to motivate self and inspire others.
- Enthusiastic, dependable with a clear attention to detail.
- Be a good team worker demonstrating loyalty and commitment to the team.
Physical/Mental Demands
The overall physical exertion of this position requires:
- Sit or stand 4-5 hours a day in office areas at provided PC/Laptop
- Sit or stand 2-3 hours a day in laboratory area/chemical storage areas
- Work around in modern office arenas, undertaking several different tasks
- Use of personal protective equipment in laboratory
