Role Overview & Responsibilities
We are looking for a midwife who is dynamic and motivated and has an enthusiasm and passion for perinatal mental health to take up the role of Specialist Midwife for Perinatal Mental Health. This role is key in developing and maintaining high standards of care for women and their families experiencing mental health problems during the pregnancy continuum.
You will require detailed knowledge and skills and will support and develop staff to ensure that they are able to provide the highest standard of care for our women, babies, and families. You will also need to have clinical credibility to enable you to support the Maternity Department in times of escalation.
You will be responsible for providing midwifery care to women with more moderate and severe mental health problems, working in partnership with local mental health services. You will work closely with women and their families to plan and coordinate their care based on their individual care needs; linking with the maternity service and other services to ensure that relevant pathways, policies and processes are developed, implemented and audited in line with local and national targets.
You will take the lead supporting colleagues through coordinating and providing training and guidance in maternal mental health for key maternity and medical staff, to facilitate holistic care that optimises mental as well as physical health. You will promote an ethos of team and joint working, collaboration, and mutual respect amongst all staff.
