Trainee Mechanical Project Engineer – Apprenticeship 2023 – London

What will you be doing?

As a Trainee Mechanical Project Engineer, you will join our Building Services team, where we will make it our ambition to prepare you for a successful and rewarding career in Building Services Engineering.

You will work alongside experienced engineers and construction professionals. Together, you will be solving mechanical engineering challenges that arise during the construction of buildings. No one day is the same.

You will learn to design, plan and oversee the installation of building services systems. These include heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, drainage, renewable technologies and other bits and bobs that bring a building to life. You will also be doing the following:

  • Co-ordinating mechanical site activities to make sure works get done safely, on time and to meet environmental legislation
  • Drawing up and translating plans using CAD (computer aided system) and BIM (building information modelling) software
  • Assisting with estimating and tenders in the pre-construction stage
  • Over time, you will learn to develop cost effective technical and sustainable design solutions involving the production of 3D models, calculations, specifications, reports and drawings.

Overall, you will be assisting with design, planning, health & safety, site operations and commercial tasks.

What qualification will you be studying for?

You will be studying a Level 3 qualification initially, however, we would expect and encourage you to progress on to Level 4 or Level 6 after you have completed Level 3.

Where will you be working?

London - most of our construction projects are in central London, however, due to the nature of construction, our work can move to various locations over time.
You will work both in the office and live construction site.

What will we need from you?

  • 5 GCSEs at Grades 5-9 including Maths (Grade 6-9), English and Science or their equivalent.
  • You will enjoy working with other people
  • Enthusiasm to learn and proactive approach to work
  • You will need to be comfortable with Maths and Physics as engineering is built on these
  • New ideas to help us innovate and work better

What can we offer you?

  • Funding and support to help you achieve a Level 3 qualification as a Building Engineering Design Technician. We will expect and encourage you to progress on to Level 4 and Level 6 qualification in Building Services Engineering after the completion of Level 3

  • Starting salary: £17- £20K per year + London travel allowance and annual salary reviews
  • We want you to do well and will support you to have a meaningful career beyond the apprenticeship
