Machine Shop Operator (Manual Turner / Harrison Lathes)
Role Overview & Responsibilities
Manual Machinist - Mainly turning using Harrison Alpha lathes, with some manual milling on SMX / DPM / Huron milling machines - based at Annfield Plain ~ £14.37/hour
The candidate will need to be competent operating manual lathes they will be using Harrison Alpha lathes of various sizes and a Herbert-Capstan lathes.
If you have done any programming on the Alpha lathes beforehand that would be fantastic but not essential.
1. Main Responsibilities
· Operate Harrison Alpha Lathes
· Ensuring all quality standards are met
· Ability to set the machine, CNC programming experience desirable
· Prepare and load raw material onto the machine
· Carrying out preventative maintenance on machine
· Maintaining accuracy to ensure correct quantities go on to the next operation
· Engaging in 5S, HSE and continuous improvement projects within the machining department
· Ensuring the lathe runs continuously throughout the shift, planning workload effectively to maximise throughput.
· Supporting the Machining department in other production tasks when the business requires.
2. The candidate will have/be able to demonstrate:
· An understating, interest and enthusiasm for manufacturing and engineering in practical terms
· The ability to read and understand engineering drawings
· The ability to use inspection equipment to self-verify own work
· Can fully understand and meaningfully contribute to discussion and decisions within the machining operations team
· Self-motivated – can work independently and autonomously when required
· Effective communicator
· Can make accurate judgements and identify appropriate courses of action to address problems as they arise
· Innovative and proactive problem-solving
· Willing to work overtime to support business needs as and when required
3. Desired experience and qualifications
· Experience running manual and CNC lathes
· 10+ years lathe operating
