Care Assistant
Role Overview & Responsibilities
Overall Objective:
To work under the general direction of the Home Manager and Senior Carers/Team Leader, to help to provide appropriate and effective care to all residents, whilst promoting and maintaining high standards, enabling each resident to maintain independence, retain choice, preserve dignity and attain fulfilment.
Purpose of Position:
To work with all staff to achieve the above objectives by:
· Assisting residents with personal care such as washing, dressing, toileting, bathing etc.
· Respecting residents' rights to independence, privacy, dignity and choice.
· Caring for residents who are dying and supporting end of life decisions.
· Helping promote continence.
· Making and changing beds, emptying commodes, helping with the laundry etc.
· Responding quickly to emergency and call bells.
· Assisting in giving residents stimulation by talking to them and helping them to continue with their hobbies.
· Encouraging residents to participate in hobbies and interests and activities within and outside the home including assisting in activities when needed.
· Assisting and attending events in support of the Home and the residents.
· Observing and reporting any changes in residents' needs, both physical and emotional.
· Making sure all visitors and relatives are welcome and provide refreshment and assistance as required.
· Answering phone calls and door entry phones when needed.
· Reading and writing reports as necessary.
· Reporting and recording of accidents of both residents and staff.
· Being prepared to deputise for absent staff in all work areas to ensure continuity of care.
· Carrying out other duties as may be agreed from time to time.
· Attending staff meetings and completing regular supervisions.
· Maintaining Fire Precautions and Prevention Procedures and being aware of all aspects of Health and Safety.
· Following all infection control procedures
This job description is not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake other appropriate duties and projects from time to time. All post holders will be offered appropriate induction and ongoing training to ensure that they are able to perform their duties safely.
Training & Education:
· NVQ Diploma Level 2 in Health & Social Care - preferable
· All staff are to attend mandatory training, both in-house and externally.
Covid-19:
· Staff must follow all current PPE requirements.
· Lateral Flow Devices (LFD) must be completed two times a week. Occasionally staff may be required to daily test when requested.
· All staff must assist visitors in completing LFD tests and be aware of the current visiting procedures for the Home.
All staff are required to respect the confidentiality of all matters that they might learn in the course of their employment. All staff are expected to respect the requirements under General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). All staff must ensure that they are aware of their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work, etc Act 1974.
