The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) seeks an Education Programme Manager - Professional Development and Learning to manage and enhance our professional development and learning programme for educators.

About the Royal Society of Chemistry:

A not-for-profit organisation with a heritage that spans over 180 years, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) has an ambitious vision for the future. We invest in educating future generations of scientists. We raise and maintain standards. We partner with industry and academia, promoting collaboration and innovation. We advise governments on policy, and we promote the talent, information and ideas that lead to great advances in science.

The RSC provides advice, resources, and practical support to learners and educators in schools, colleges, and universities around the world. In the UK, we are the largest non-governmental funder of chemistry education, and we influence government policy to ensure that opportunities to develop skills meet the unique needs of chemistry.

The role:

The official title of this role is Education Programme Manager - Professional Development and Learning. In this role you will manage and enhance our professional development and learning programme for educators, developing internal capabilities, external collaborations and service propositions. You will take on management of a team (typically 2 - 4 direct reports) and key accountabilities for our education professional development and learning programme which contribute to and facilitate transformational change in the quality of teaching. This will involve programme and proposition planning, working with colleagues across a range of education programmes and RSC initiatives, and collaborative projects with other organisations, with responsibility for a £100k budget.

What we are looking for:

  • Experience in classroom teaching, teacher training or teacher professional development.
  • Good working knowledge of STEM education and challenges facing teachers and learners in UK and Ireland, supported by a degree in the chemical sciences or an equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in developing and successfully implementing professional development and learning experiences for educators, with experience of applying learning design.
  • Excellent team working, team leadership, management, and staff development of a geographically dispersed team.
  • Experience of building and maintaining networks, with the ability to influence and negotiate.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to plan and prioritise work, to meet deadlines, and to support allocation of work within a team of employees and suppliers.
As an organisation we are embracing hybrid working, and homeworking/remote working within the UK could be considered for this role. Applicants should be aware that there is an expectation that employees will attend our Cambridge and London offices and travel as needed for this role. For this role, there may be an average of about 1 - 2 meetings per month that require travel – either to our offices or to other locations within the UK.
