Role Overview & Responsibilities

A Research Assistant in Cell & Developmental Biology or Biomechanics is sought to contribute to an interdisciplinary research project investigating how tissues respond to mechanical force. The post will be based in the Woolner Lab, Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell-Matrix Research, Faculty of Biology, Medicine & Health and will work closely with collaborators in the Faculty of Science & Engineering.

The successful candidate will use established techniques to apply reproducible mechanical force to live tissues and determine cellular response. The experimental work will involve live confocal imaging, image analysis and embryo/tissue dissection. Alongside project work, the holder of the post will also fulfill a general lab manager role (e.g., ordering laboratory consumables, maintaining laboratory protocols and health and safety documentation, managing antibody and plasmid stocks).

Essential skills: Hold (or expect to shortly hold) an undergraduate degree in biological sciences. Experience in confocal imaging and laboratory management roles, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The position is available from 1st May 2023 and is full-time, but applications from individuals seeking flexible working arrangements are also welcome.
