Role Overview & Responsibilities
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and self-motivated individual to be the roleof Psychological SupportPractitioner in the Psychological Support and Counselling Service for staff. The successful applicant needs to have a strong interest in working with NHS staff requiring support for stress and mental health related difficulties .
You will be a key member of the assessment team, being the first point of contact for staff accessing the service. In addition to providing initial assessments via telephone, you will hold a small clinical caseload and provide structured interventions for specific difficulties. These sessions are all face-to-face and may be in individual or group format.
You will be provided with regular in-house training and ongoing professional and clinical supervision. You will also have the opportunity to receive additional training in specialist therapy interventions.
Base Location: Poole Hospital and/orRoyal Bournemouth Hospital
Interview Date: TBC
You will undertake detailed initial assessmentsusing a semi-structured clinical interview together with data from validated screening tools to determine the most appropriate support forstaff accessing the service. It requires good working knowledge of key diagnostic criteria for the most common mental health presentations together with extensive knowledge of appropriate referral/signposting and the ability to recognise when further action is required.
You will provide short-term structured support interventions for a range of symptoms and difficulties utilising strategies and techniques from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Behaviour Activation, and Solution Focussed Therapy.
The role will be working as part of a small supportive team.The post-holder will be reporting to the Senior Psychological Support Practitioner and supported by the Consultant Clinical Lead, working across University Hospitals Dorset.
