Role Overview & Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking experienced professionals to join our pool of Specialist Mentors providing one to one support for students with Mental Health Conditions (including Depression, Anxiety, Emotional Instability, Bi-polar, Psychosis and Eating Disorders) and/or students with the diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Conditions.

You will be expected to support students in a range of study related areas including, time and workload management, exam preparation, structuring of coursework and other study strategies to aid progression towards independent learning.

You will be undertaking duties in line with funding from Student Finance England and others, through the Disabled Students’ Allowance, which also regulates the mandatory qualifications and professional memberships required to undertake the role. Only applicants who satisfy the mandatory qualifications for Specialist Mentor MH/ASC may be invited to interview.

Applications are welcomed from individuals to provide specialist mentoring services either as Specialist Mentor (ASC) or Specialist Mentor (MH), or both in a blended role.

Offered at Grade 7, which is a full-time equivalent salary starting at £36,724, plus a 25% planning and preparation enhancement. This role is paid on an hourly basis, starting at £23.85, including the planning and preparation enhancement.

A range of working patterns are currently available to ensure that all students can access specialist mentoring support, although these will mainly be during University term times. Support can be offered to students remotely (via the MS Teams platform) or on the University campus. We are particularly keen to recruit staff who can offer online and in person sessions.

To apply, please send your CV, along with a covering letter (of no more than two sides) which outlines your suitability for the role, to learning.support@hud.ac.uk. Please make particular reference to the person specification and how you meet the criteria for this and for the mandatory qualifications and membership of professional bodies.

Applications will close on Monday 6 March 2023 and interviews (conducted remotely via teams) are scheduled for Monday 13 March 2023.

Informal queries regarding this role should be directed to Ms Jo Mitchell (Disability and Inclusion Manager) at j.mitchell3@hud.ac.uk or Joanna Brown (Senior Disability and Inclusion Adviser) j.j.brown@hud.ac.uk

Please note that applicants who are current students at the University of Huddersfield will only be able to work a maximum of 15 hours per week. It is important to note that joining the University pool does not guarantee work in the future. Inclusion in the pool is not employment at the University and there is no obligation on the University to offer you work at any future date.
