Role Overview & Responsibilities

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Research Assistant to join the Oxford Drug Discovery Institute team led by Professor Paul Brenan at the Centre for Medicines Discovery. The Research Group is part of a world-class network of three drug discovery institutes sponsored by Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) to translate breakthroughs in academic research into life-changing treatments for people living with dementia.
You will work in a multi-disciplinary team consisting of other chemists, biochemists and cell biologists, and design and synthesize small molecules using structure activity relationships and protein-ligand co-crystal structures. You will analyse spectroscopic and screening data relating to synthesis and screening. You will manage your own research and administrative activities, within guidelines provided by senior colleagues, and contribute to wider project planning, including ideas for new research projects.
It is essential that you hold a Master’s degree in organic synthesis or medicinal chemistry (or close to completion) and have experience in small molecule synthesis and characterization. Familiarity with chemistry drawing packages, MS Office products, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the ability to learn other software packages is essential, and you will have an ability to rapidly adapt to changing project priorities.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience.
This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract for 24 months in the first instance and is funded by Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Only applications received before 12 midday on 4 April 2023 will be considered. Please quote 163770 on all correspondence.
